00 – Letter To My Friends

Hi Friends!

I shall try to tell you a few stories.

These are episodes, or parts, of the many stories that have been told by older generations to younger generations. Most of these stories will be from India, the country from where I am. But some can be from other places.

These are sometimes referred to as mythology.

This literally means “study of stories”. They are expected to entertain you, and sometimes teach you something.

Different people, at different times, need to tell (and learn) different things. So stories in mythology need not always agree with each other.

That doesn’t mean one is “truer” than the other.

Say you and your sister both say you love your mother more. Would one statement being true (you loving your mother) make the other statement less true (your sister loving her mother… same mother). Or say you telling your friend (call him “Raju”) next door that your mother makes the best paneer curry, and Raju says his mother makes the tastiest milkshakes.

You both may be right!

You both may be wrong. (Sorry!)

But one of you being right doesn’t make the other less or more right. Right? Still some people believe some stories to be truer than anything. We are not those people! We like stories. So let’s leave what is right, what is wrong to Mrs. Bhandari (she taught me English and had long nails!).

One more thing. If you want to know which of my stories are “more” true, and which are “less” true… ask your Dad. Better ask your Mom.

Whatever they say is right.

Until you find out what you want to be true. Deal! If they look at you strangely, tell them (your Dad’s mostly) that SunKey Uncle said that you should ask them. They will understand. If not, ask them to find my other blog (the one you are not allowed to read).

I will try and post short stories from mythology. If I don’t post on time, scold me in the comments, OK!

And sometimes tell me stories you heard from somewhere else. Please! I like a good story told well.
